Job Description: The CSIR has a vacancy for a Principal Researcher in the Operational Intelligence Impact Area, within the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions Cluster. The incumbent will be responsible to implement relevant Research Strategy by leading cross-cutting application of science and technology to solve problems in engineered, natural and other systems. [the_ad id="21943"] Job Responsibilities: Generate and contribute towards Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) activity outputs e.g., internal reports, peer reviewed conference and journal papers, book chapters, presentations, technology demonstrators and technology and software packages; Perform literature and desktop studies; Engage with Higher Educational Institutes and build collaborative research network; Liaise with clients and respond to client instructions and requests; Perform project management tasks such as project plan scoping, managing, controlling, and closing out, including time sheet management, procurement activities, ethical clearance applications; Perform and play a leading role in modelling activities such as model preparation, simulations and analysis, method and code development as well as model validation and verification; Contribute to wider dissemination of scientific knowledge through the publication of popular articles and/or presentations to a general audience; Guide SET staff on the lower and senior ranks of career ladder, co-members of teams and/or project members; Coordinate, prepare funding and research proposals and implement projects of multi-client, multi-year national / international level proposals; Evaluate, implement, and lead the formulation of trans-disciplinary research questions to address cross-cutting knowledge gaps and new avenues of SET knowledge application within own group and at national level. Contribute to the formulation of Research and Development strategies within research group, Impact Area, business unit and national level. Job Requirements: Knowledge of mathematical models (or subsystems thereof), providing solutions (or part thereof) to challenging problems within the defined project boundaries; Demonstrate research record in multi-scale multi-physics modelling development research; Demonstrate research track record, with several peer-reviewed publications and/or innovations; Demonstrated skills in: analytical thinking, flexibility and adaptability, investigative orientation, planning and organising, problem solving, verbal and written communication, teamwork, self-management (planning, prioritising and time management – includes the ability to work independently), systems level thinking and quality management; Proficient in rapid prototyping, development of multi-disciplinary modelling tools and systems; All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA); A Doctoral degree will be advantageous; Must be proficient with programming languages such as C/C++, Python, R or Fortran; Qualification & Experience: Experience in technical writing, such as preparing good quality technical reports for complex systems; Experience using materials modelling software (such as, but not limited to: Material Studio (part of Accelrys), DLPOLY, VASP); Experience with High Performance Computing is advantageous; A Master’s degree in computational sciences or related field (e.g., mechanics, materials science, physics, computational chemistry, applied mathematics and statistics, computer science/engineering, with at least seven years’ experience in materials modeling and/or machine learning in a research and development environment; Job Details: Company: Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Vacancy Type: Full Time Job Location: Scientia, Pretoria, South Africa Application Deadline: N/A [the_ad id="21944"] Apply Here jobsrican.com
