Job Description:

To manage and co-ordinate operational activities of the Acquisitions team by maximising the use of resources in pursuit of an effective and timeous service to all clients in line with the strategy of the UJ Library.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, facilitate and complete the supplier application and approval process
  • The acquisitions of all library information resources according to policy and procedure.
  • Assist the Manager of Technical Services with the allocation, management and reporting of the Information Budget
  • Evaluate all suppliers according to policy
  • Manage the internal ordering system (Nevada/Sapnet) and ensure that all internal orders received are completed as per policy and procedure
  • Plan and organize the workflow within the section and implement decision and policies
  • Supervision of staff within the section

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience of the Sierra system
  • Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive knowledge in acquisitions of library information resources
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the acquisitions of library information resources
  • Knowledge of the academic environment
  • Minimum of 2 years’ management experience
  • Knowledge of supplier contracts
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the management of supplier contracts and agreements
  • Knowledge of the academic publishing industry
