Job Description:

The Iron catalyst plant Process Engineer I is part of the technical support team for the Catalyst manufacturing plants within the larger Wax value chain. The individual will be the responsible for process engineering plant support for the units on the Iron catalyst plant which also include the nitric acid- and effluent/salt plants. The process engineer will also implement projects and optimization initiatives to improve the safety/performance of the units.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure relevant engineering standards and quality requirements are adhered to
  • Development R&T technology packages and key engineering deliverables within this technology area
  • Formulate and execute (manage and do) the process engineering scope for R&T and modelling projects
  • Ensure R&T governance, standards and policies are adhered to in execution of work
  • Develop the necessary tools, standards and workflows to support the effective delivery of projects and to capture the know-how in this field
  • Assess the feasibility of 3rd party software applications for use in Sasol
  • Plan, organise and execute R&T projects in accordance to the relevant governance process
  • Ensure adherence to risk management policies and practices
  • Aligning with stakeholders the scope and execution approach for R&T projects,
  • Identify key technical risks in process design, and propose solutions to mitigate or eliminate these technology risks
  • Manage and guide R&T project teams, providing technical direction to other engineers, scientists and research operations staff.
  • Execution and delivery of own technical studies through application of specialist knowledge, competence and fundamental understanding of process modelling and numerical methods
  • Provides technical expertise and support to end-users of the models and/or execute case studies with the models in support of projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Critical to this role are strong interpersonal and networking skills to influence and negotiate, having the necessary maturity, discipline and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships, and to work with, or through others inside and/or outside (ECs/licensors/etc.) the organisation to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to provide support to operating plants by hands-on problem solving, technical analysis and monitoring, especially via application of process models.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience on batch plant design/operation and sequence process control will be preferred
  • 3+ relevant years (with Bachelor’s degree) and 2+ relevant years (with Master’s degree)
  • Minimum BSc Eng. (Chem) or B Eng. (Chem).
  • ECSA Candidate engineer
