Job Description:
AfrikaBurn is looking to employ a Finance & Grants Coordinator to join the operations team. This role will be central to the finance, grants, and compliance processes in the organisation. The Finance & Grants Coordinator will report to the Executive Director of Operations (EDO) and Executive Director of Development (EDD) while working closely with AfrikaBurn’s operational portfolios, the Finance Committee and our accounting service provider (ASP).
AfrikaBurn is the strategic driver of Burning Man culture in the Southern African region and plays a significant role in the arts and culture sector of South Africa. Most known for its flagship event in the Tankwa Karoo, as a public benefit organisation, AfrikaBurn is the human scaffold that helps a diverse creative community propel numerous arts and development projects.
The Finance & Grants Coordinator should be a team player who is open to working with various individuals and teams across multiple portfolios. The required outputs of this role will be dynamic depending on the organisation’s needs and environment.

- Assisting the EDO to develop and maintain AB’s financial systems (budgeting, reporting, payments, and financial planning) in coordination with the Finance Committee and our ASP
- Coordinating the budget development, monitoring, and forecasting by liaising with various portfolios team members
- Assisting with monitoring and evaluation of grant programmes and projects
- Ensuring all registration certificates, licences and compliance documents are current
- Updating and maintaining AfrikaBurn grant documentation and records
- Assisting the EDD with the preparation of funding applications, reports and donor communications
- Processing Section 18A donor certificates
- General administration duties
- Facilitating the banking, payments, and expense claims system in coordination with our ASP
- Reconciling grant expenditure by AfrikaBurn beneficiaries
- Providing effective support to the operations team and our ASP with finance-related queries
- Producing financial information and reports as required by directors and the operations team
Job Requirements:
- Intermediate to advanced Google Suite/ Google Apps specifically Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides (or Microsoft Office – including Excel, Word, Powerpoint )
- Ability to learn and work within an online environment – from making and scheduling Zoom calls, managing a shared calendar, sharing and storing in a Cloud environment and using a variety of online applications
- Able to work in Cape Town
- At least three years’ experience in financial accounting, administration, or coordination; or
- A finance or accounting-related degree/diploma
