Job Description:
The Fleet Manager is responsible for planning, directing, managing, coordinating, and supervising the programs for acquisition, assignment, utilization, maintenance, repair, replacement and disposal of fleet vehicles. Fleet manager also serves as the primary contact concerning the vehicle fleet and operations. The Fleet manager will also be responsible for contractor management as well as cellular management.
Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of Organizational resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with Organization goals and objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Create vehicle purchase specifications and purchases vehicles.
- Oversees the on campus fueling stations. Reducing the Fleet’s carbon footprint and environmental impact.
- Develops and administers vehicle/equipment asset management processes from procurement to disposition.
- Ensure compliance with all road traffic laws, vehicle licensing and roadworthiness.
- Fuel management with various suppliers. Fuel monitoring and discipline for over usage.
- Fleet Manager is responsible in deciding whether a vehicle meets environmental standards, whether a vehicle should be assigned to better meet the needs of the Organization, whether a vehicle should be purchased, leased or disposed of.
- Direct supervision and evaluating the work of employees as a first-line supervisor.
- Manages various fleet systems to keep the fleet running at optimum performance
- Reporting to senior management on costs, optimization, fleet numbers and other relevant stats pertaining to the fleet.
- Establish and monitor purchasing, operational and replacement strategies and practices for most cost-effective operation.
- Vehicle tracking monitoring and ensuring discipline is taken against offending drivers.
- Monthly SLA meetings with suppliers and ensuring that all agreed SLA’s are met.
- Vendor management with all suppliers
- Responsible for all aspects of fleet maintenance and repair.
Job Requirements:
- Webcost (Intermediate).
- Negotiating skills.
- Budgetary experience.
- 5 years minimum experience in Fleet Management.
- MS PowerPoint (Intermediate).
- Experience in price, spec, and to purchase or lease vehicles. Understand and track total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Experience in creating and establishing fleet policies and procedures, from vehicle assignment to replacement cycling, from company use to accident reporting.
- Fleet Management System (Intermediate).
- Matric (essential).
- MS Work (Intermediate).
- Experience in/with the Motor industry.
- Procurement.
- A strong knowledge of motor vehicle servicing and maintenance.
- MS Excel (Intermediate).
- Bachelor’s degree (advantageous).
- Vehicle tracking, driver scorecard management.
- AARTO compliance.
