Job Description:
We are looking to recruit a Senior Data Specialist to work within our Internal Audit department. The role will be based at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town and will report to the Audit Manager (IT).
Advance the data analytics function within internal audit to increase the use of data and the automation of data analytics that provides insight into key risks and controls. Oversees and conducts the conversion of data into insights that will identify areas of risk and non-compliance to policies processes and procedures.

- Assist in generating an audit plan that incorporates analytics requires the use and coordination of a wide variety of skill sets.
- Understanding KPIs within the business for the purpose of identifying trends and evaluating the success of the business’s initiatives.
- Develop continuous monitoring data analysis in conjunction with the audit managers as part of the performance of various reviews, e.g. control effectiveness reviews, data migration reviews, data quality assessments, etc.
- Lead the data analytics function within internal audit to achieve the following objectives:
- Build and operationalise processes that ensure timely data-loading and maintain accuracy and relevance of data used to perform regular analysis and monitoring.
- Identifies, evaluates, and documents potential data sources in support of business processes to facilitate effective assurance. Required to plan, scope, design and deliver analytics on audit assignments in line with audit objectives.
- Determine whether the right technologies are in place.
- Develops clear and well-structured analytical plans and analyses large data sets in line with specific objectives, using tools like SQL, ACL, Excel, etc. and the data made available in the BI environment.
- Automating the analysis of key KPI’s and building regular trend analysis and continuous monitoring.
- Engagement with middle and senior management within the brands, group services and UPD to understand key risks and identify potential analytics to leverage on, highlighting trends, risks and control inefficiencies.

Job Requirements:
- Experience with analysis methodologies, process disciplines & SDLC methodologies. Experience with reading ACL (Audit Command Language) scripts OR SQL (Structured Query Language) or similar data analysis software coding. The ability to develop SQL programs/ queries/ stored procedures and ACL batch jobs/ scripts.
- Knowledge of business (financial), understanding of IT, and ability to converse in both domains.
- B.COM IT in Informatics
- Impactful focus in everything undertaken – results driven
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience at a Big 4 audit firm or large complex data driven organisation in a mixture of business audit (business knowledge) and data analysis/business specification writing. The experience needs to be both business and IT related given the focus on the position to be able to play in both the IT and business space. Knowledge of business (financial), understanding of IT, and ability to converse in both domains.
- Ability to influence/gaining commitment
- Experience in Data Migrations through the use of analytic tools (MS SQL, MS Access, ACL etc) to determine validity, accuracy and completeness of data moving from the source system to the target system. A working knowledge of SAP S4/Hana and SAP ECC would be advantageous.
- Understanding of database tools, structures and extraction tools such as SQL, ACL, advanced visualisation tools such as Tableau and Microsoft Power BI.
- B.Sc or B.Com in Information Systems/ Computer Science/ Statistics with related supporting certifications, e.g. business analysis certifications, etc.; or
- On the job knowledge and experience in database formats and structures as well as extractions tools.
- Knowledge and experience with reading ACL (Audit Command Language) scripts OR SQL (Structured Query Language) or similar data analysis software coding.
- A basic understanding of the various retail processes will be a requirement.
- Experience in performing control effectiveness reviews will be advantageous. (Understanding of risks and controls and test approaches.)
